College Football Playoff Rankings 2022: Potential National Championship

As largely expected, this national championship game will be chalk, but that is not a bad thing.

Even if we needed to play eight additional games to get to this point in this exercise, college football fans were rewarded by having eight more entrants into the playoff mix. The national quarterfinals lived up to the hype, while being able to see first-round games played out on college campuses was a breath of fresh air. But for now, it will be the Dawgs vs. the Wolverines in SoFi.

Here is what is going to happen when Georgia faces off with Michigan in back-to-back playoffs.

Even though we all saw Georgia wipe the floor with Michigan in the Orange Bowl in last year’s national semifinals, it is going to be a much better game this time around. The quarterback play is better for both teams with J.J. McCarthy starting now for Michigan over Cade McNamara, while Stetson Bennett IV grew in his first full year as the UGA starter, maybe even heading to New York?

Last year’s strong defensive lines for both teams did not fall off a cliff. The dominant running games are pillars for both of these team’s offenses. In short, Georgia and Michigan are pretty much mirror images of each other. Unfortunately for the Wolverines, the Dawgs are the slightly better version all the way around over them. Little becomes big over time, and that will matter.

No, we will not get an Orange Bowl-esque blowout in SoFi this time. However, Georgia will be slightly faster at a few key positions throughout the game, enough to the point where Michigan runs out of gas after playing its A-game for the better part of the title bout. Depth will be crucial in the national championship, as Michigan and Georgia will have had to play an additional game now.

The Wolverines close the gap a bit, but Georgia repeats as national championship by two scores.
