Why Odell Beckham Jr needs to sign with Cowboys: Legit chance to be No. 1 receiver

In Buffalo, OBJ has no shot at being the top receiver. That honor is owned, and will not be taken away from, Stefon Diggs, who is third in total receiving yards in the NFL this season. He has an elite connection with Josh Allen.

Frankly, it’s hard to see Beckham leap-frogging Gabriel Davis for the No. 2 spot, either. Davis leads the league in yards per reception and is top-10 in receiving touchdowns. When Diggs is smothered in coverage, Davis is the go-to.

In Dallas, Beckham has a chance to be a top-2 receiver, and there’s a world in which he can be the most-targeted. CeeDee Lamb is the clear No. 1 right now with 111 targets, but tight end Dalton Schultz is No. 2 with 56 targets. Michael Gallup is the next actual receiver behind Beckham at 49 targets on the year.

There’s clearly a massive need for another receiver to step up.

If Lamb gets the primary assignment, Beckham might be the best read on several plays in the Cowboys’ playbook if they don’t force the ball his way anyway.

Dallas needs receiving help the most out of the three available.

It’s fair to say maybe this circumstance could also exist with the Giants (Saquon Barkley, RB, has received the most targets). The difference is the passer, though. With Dak Prescott, you’re confident he can get you the ball because he’s a proven Pro Bowl QB.

Daniel Jones is having his most impressive season, but he’s a few years away from being a truly top-tier quarterback, if he ever gets there.

While the Giants have an equal need for a receiver as Dallas, it’s unclear if they have the guy that can get him the ball. Advantage Dallas here as well.
