2023 NFL mock draft: Where will Heisman finalists C.J. Stroud, Max Duggan, Stetson Bennett IV go?
By John Buhler
There is a strong possibility that Max Duggan returns to TCU for one more year
As with Stetson Bennett IV, Max Duggan will get drafted by an NFL team at some point, but maybe not this year. That is because the TCU star quarterback has one more year of eligibility left he can use. Like Bennett did this season, Duggan can use his COVID year and afford himself more opportunities in college, whether that is to elevate his NFL Draft stock or capitalize on some NIL.
Even if Duggan returns to school for one more year in 2023, it is hard to envision him climbing into the top-32 on anyone’s draft board. However, he could have himself a Joe Burrow-esque super senior season to be an unquestioned, top-100 pick next spring. While he might be a day-two pick already, Duggan could be coming off the board in day three this spring. He probably needs to stay…
In a similar vein as Bennett, Duggan’s best financial opportunities that lie ahead for him are connected with his alma mater vs. whatever NFL team ends up taking a chance on him. While his name and brand recognition will get him onto an NFL roster at some point, why would Duggan not want to roll the dice just one more time and see if he can have college football do his work for him?
You only get to be a college football superstar once in your life, so you might as well use it all up.
Prediction: Despite some interest from NFL teams, Max Duggan wisely returns to TCU in 2023
