Daniel Jones is proving that the Giants need to move on at QB

Welcoming the 11-1 Eagles to MetLife Stadium, Daniel Jones and the Giants had the opportunity to make a statement after tying the Commanders last week to get back into the thick of the NFC playoff race. Instead, New York came out and got punched in the mouth repeatedly, and a big part of that was the overall ineffectiveness of Jones.

You can definitely make excuses for Jones. The offensive line didn’t do him any favors as they gave up four sacks when he was on the field and the run game wasn’t much support as Saquon Barkley had only nine carries for 28 yards on the day. But when you get down to it, Jones proved once again that he’s just not good enough to put the team on his back. He finished the day going 18-of-27 for 169 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 26 yards and another score.

Those numbers, however, don’t tell the entire story. Jones wasn’t sharp, wasn’t making plays consistently, and put the defense in horrendous spots early with short drives that allowed the Eagles to jump out to a 21-0 lead right away.

It was a disaster for the quarterback, and perhaps the most damning evidence — even if the Eagles were just biding their time — was Tyrod Taylor entering the game and going 5-of-5 for 47 yards and a touchdown while also leading the team in rushing with 40 yards on only two carries.

Danny Dimes isn’t worth two nickels at this point and it might actually be best for the Giants. At least now they know that the overall roster is in a good spot, but they need to find an actual answer at quarterback.
