Chicago Cubs dream lineup for 2023

There is certainly room for improvement in the Chicago lineup next season, and that improvement could come at the designated hitter position where free agent Michael Conforto could make a big splash at Wrigley if the Cubs were able to sign him.

There are rumors that Conforto’s arm strength may be a question, which, if true, would limit him to primarily designated hitter duties in 2023. That could be a plus for the Cubs, a team that seems to have its outfield already set for next season.

Conforto is reportedly looking for a shorter-term deal to reestablish his value. Would Chicago be the place where that could happen?

What about first base, a position where Trey Mancini could potentially give the Cubs a boost? Mancini could not only potentially platoon with Higgins at first, but the 30-year-old is also looking to once again show that he is the player who slashed .268/.347/.404 with the Baltimore Orioles last season before struggling following a trade to Houston.

Add those two into the mix and here’s what a Cubs lineup could look like.

Nico Hoerner, 2B

Dansby Swanson, SS

Ian Happ, LF

Seiya Suzuki, RF

Cody Bellinger, CF

Michael Conforto, DH

Trey Mancini, 1B

Christopher Morel, 3B

Yan Gomes, C

Would the Cubs spend for both Mancini and Conforto? It’s unlikely, and Conforto could arguably provide the most benefits of the two if it came down to a choice. However, even with one of them in the lineup, it would strength a batting order that is already benefitting from Swanson near the top.
