5 offensive coordinators Alabama can hire if Bill O’Brien leaves for Patriots
Kliff Kingsbury isn’t the answer for the Cardinals but he could be for Alabama’s offense
Despite how long the Arizona Cardinals have tried to make it work, it’s become abundantly clear that Kliff Kingsbury is not cut out to be an NFL head coach. And frankly, his time at Texas Tech as the head coach of his alma mater doesn’t really inspire a whole lot of confidence in his ability in that facet either.
One thing that is not in question, however, is that Kingsbury knows how to put points on the board and that’s what he would be asked to do with Alabama if he were replacing Bill O’Brien. Kingsbury’s offenses with the Cardinals have been frustrating at times, but his time with the Red Raiders and as the OC for Texas A&M and 2012 and at Houston the years prior to that show that he is a true disciple of the Mike Leach tree.
Now, it does remain to be seen if Saban would embrace that type of offense fully, but the simple truth is that Kingsbury knows how to utilize the college rules to get points on the board and has never had the talent level that would be available to him at Tuscaloosa to do so.
This is also another play in the Nick Saban Alabama School for Wayward Coaches. It feels like the Cards are biding time until they can fire him after the 2022 NFL season but, once that happens, he’ll be looking for a new gig and, if O’Brien leaves for the Patriots, the Crimson Tide should be wholly interested in seeing how this fit would work.
