Michigan fans didn’t take it well falling behind 14-0 to TCU in the CFP semifinal game at the Fiesta Bowl, giving up before the end of the first quarter.

Momentum swings are the best and worst things for fans in sports. The highs and the lows can switch places at any moment.

For Michigan fans, the ecstasy of a 54-yard run from Donovan Edwards on the first play of the game quickly faded to despair. The Horned Frogs got a fourth-down stop at the goal line, returned an interception for a touchdown and punched in another score to take a 14-0 first-quarter lead.

While camera operators for ESPN cut to dismayed Wolverine fans in the stands, those at home on message boards and Twitter were melting down in their own way.

Going down by two touchdowns in a CFP semifinal certainly isn’t a great feeling. However, writing off the game at that point probably counts as jumping the gun.

At the same time, the deficit means the Wolverines will have to do something they haven’t had to do all season: Come back from a 14-point deficit.

Jim Harbaugh’s track record on that front isn’t encouraging. According to ESPN Stats & Info, the Wolverines are 3-15 under the head coach when trailing by two touchdowns or more.

Michigan has three quarters to break the trend or the reaction from fans will further devolve.
