Best Aaron Rodgers backup plans for Packers: Mac Jones

Let’s get super crazy. The Green Bay Packers want a long-term answer if they move on from Aaron Rodgers. If it isn’t Jordan Love, they want someone with experience. Mac Jones and the New England Patriots have mixed like oil and water this season. The Patriots brought in Matt Patricia to call plays. It’s gone terribly, just like we all thought it would. Jones has shown extreme frustration with his receivers, tight ends, running backs and offensive line.

Also, did we just forget the Patriots went with Bailey Zappe earlier this season? Sure, Jones earned his job back, but a subsection of the fanbase still clamors for Zappe. While Zappe likely isn’t the answer there, it shows many aren’t sure Jones is, either.

Jones is incredibly talented, if not flawed, as a quarterback. He needs an offensive mind to help him unlock his best self. LaFleur could be that guy. Will Bill Belichick be willing to give up on his project? Will it even be his decision with so much turmoil and drama in New England?

There’s a lot that needs to go right here, but Jones in Green Bay makes a lot of sense. Playing like he did during that impressive stretch last year is a winning formula. Jones has a chance to make the playoffs in back-to-back seasons with a win against the Bills this week. It would be wild if the Patriots traded away Jones heading into year three after two playoff berths, but we’re preparing for a wild offseason.
