3) Pitcher Luke Weaver

Luke Weaver is a top prospect that has not panned out for a few teams for a few reasons. Before the 2017 season, he was rated as high as the #50 prospect in the entire sport by Baseball America.

But he hasn’t been healthy and he hasn’t pitched well when he has been healthy. However, a team with a lot of young pitching, like the Braves, could be the team to unlock the potential that teams saw in Weaver a few years ago.

In 2022, he split the season between the Diamondbacks and Royals and in 26 games (one start), he had a 6.56 ERA. However, his 2.69 FIP, 3.3 BB/9, and 9.6 K/9 suggests that as long as he gets hits hit rate lower (13.1 H/9), then the Braves could have themselves a good pitcher.

In the meantime, the 29-year-old Florida native would provide them with some depth and some competition for Dennis Santana (who has not been great himself) as the club’s long reliever. He should be able to be signed with a minor league deal with an invite to spring training so signing Weaver could be a low-risk, high-reward pitcher for them.
