3) MLB rumors: Why the Orioles should trade for a Marlins pitcher

It wasn’t the exciting offseason for the Baltimore Orioles many of us believed could happen. Adam Frazier, Kyle Gibson, and Mychal Givens don’t register on the offseason Richter scale. Their offense and bullpen showed a lot of heart last year. What kept them from being even better was their pitching staff.

Not much has improved with the Orioles prepared to embark on a journey with more young arms leading the charge. There is promise of someone like Grayson Rodriguez becoming a future ace. The future isn’t now and the Orioles should look to upgrade at least one of the spots before Opening Day.

The Marlins and Orioles could be good trade partners because of Baltimore’s excess in talented offensive players. Bringing Trey Mancini back into the picture, re-signing him and maybe trading first baseman Ryan Mountcastle to the Marlins for an arm is something to consider.

The Orioles could even dip into their farm system and not subtract anyone from the major league roster. Colton Cowser is one of their better prospects and someone they should trade in the right deal.

It’s too late now for the Orioles to do something like send Cedric Mullins to the Marlins because of how negatively it would affect them in center field. Only if the Marlins were to make Alcantara available should the O’s consider trading Mullins. That doesn’t seem to be the case with these latest MLB rumors.
