College basketball power rankings: Don’t forget about Kansas
5. Week 10 College Basketball Power Rankings – Tennessee Volunteers
- Previously: 10th
- Record: 13-2 (3-0 in SEC)
- Last Week: Won 87-53 Vs. Mississippi State, Won 85-42 At South Carolina
- This Week: Vs. Vanderbilt 1/10, Vs. Kentucky 1/14
The top of the SEC is crowded but Tennessee is starting to join Alabama by separating itself from the pack. The Volunteers absolutely blitzed a good Mississippi State team at home before punking South Carolina on the road and are undoubtedly licking their chops for a shot at reeling Kentucky on Saturday.
4. Week 10 College Basketball Power Rankings – Gonzaga Bulldogs
- Previously: 7th
- Record: 14-3 (3-0 in WCC)
- Last Week: Won 77-75 At San Francisco, Won 81-76 At Santa Clara
- This Week: At BYU 1/12, Vs. Portland 1/14
The WCC has become a much more competitive league this season so Gonzaga showed off major onions by winning two of their toughest road games last week. The Bulldogs have another tricky week ahead as they head to BYU on Thursday before welcoming in a Portland team that gave high-majors fits at the Phil Knight Invitational earlier this season.
3. Week 10 College Basketball Power Rankings – Kansas Jayhawks
- Previously: 6th
- Record: 14-1 (3-0 in Big 12)
- Last Week: Won 75-72 At Texas Tech, Won 76-62 At West Virginia
- This Week: Vs. Oklahoma 1/10, Vs. Iowa State 1/14
The Big 12 is the deepest league in America and Kansas handled two stiff road tests last week to improve to 14-1 on the year. The only team to beat the Jayhawks this year was Tennessee in the Battle 4 Atlantis and that may not change this week with Oklahoma and Iowa State coming to Allen Fieldhouse.
2. Week 10 College Basketball Power Rankings – Alabama Crimson Tide
- Previously: 3rd
- Record: 13-2 (3-0 in SEC)
- Last Week: Won 84-62 At Ole Miss, Won 78-52 Vs. Kentucky
- This Week: At No. 13 Arkansas 1/11, Vs. LSU 1/14
Nate Oats has to be immensely satisfied as his team demolished Kentucky by 26 points to give Alabama their largest victory in their history against the Wildcats. Wednesday’s trip to Arkansas is one of the week’s best games and offers the first big road test for the Crimson Tide in conference play.
1. Week 10 College Basketball Power Rankings – Houston Cougars
- Previously: 2nd
- Record: 16-1 (4-0 in American)
- Last Week: Won 87-53 Vs. SMU, Won 72-59 At Cincinnati
- This Week: Vs. South Florida 1/11
The Cougars are back on top after winning a pair of games by double digits, which isn’t a shock since Houston tends to obliterate teams that aren’t close to their talent level. That trend should continue on Wednesday as South Florida comes to town for Houston’s only action of the week.
