NFL mock draft: 5 best prospects playing in Georgia vs. TCU
By John Buhler
Quentin Johnston should be one of the first wide receivers coming off the board
The NFL might be a quarterback-driven league, but a star signal-caller is only as good as the weapons he has around him. One of the very best wide receivers in the college game today is TCU star Quentin Johnston. Although he may not be the first wide receiver taken in the 2023 NFL Draft, Johnston projects as one who should be coming off the board in the early-to-mid teens this year.
Should Johnston have a great game for the Horned Frogs in the national championship game, it is only going to increase his chances of potentially cracking the top 10. Like Georgia defensive back Kelee Ringo, Johnston has an outside shot of doing so. However, the two-time All-Big 12 performer feels like the safer lock of the two going inside of the top 20 in the upcoming NFL Draft.
There is no way that Johnston is not a first-round pick at wide receiver this spring; he is too good!
Jalen Carter is on a shortlist of candidates who could be the No. 1 overall pick
Let’s be real. There are only four candidates to go No. 1 overall this spring. If the Chicago Bears stay put with the top selection, it will be either Alabama defensive end Will Anderson Jr. or Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter. Should the Bears trade back with a quarterback-desperate team, the first pick will be either Anderson’s Alabama teammate Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud out of Ohio State.
The case for Carter going No. 1 overall is pretty simple. The Bears have a franchise quarterback in Justin Fields, but need a face to build their defense around. It would be in line with the Jacksonville Jaguars taking Carter’s former Georgia teammate Travon Walker No. 1 overall last spring. Had Carter been draft-eligible, he could have been the first player taken. Carter is totally going top-five.
If he makes it past the Seattle Seahawks picking at No. 5, something horribly wrong happened.
