NFL mock draft: 3 teams Quentin Johnston could upgrade the offense for
By John Buhler
Houston Texans need to pair Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud with a No. 1 wide receiver
The Houston Texans do not need to overthink this. Sure, they could trade up to the No. 1 pick in a deal with the Chicago Bears, but stop! This team is not good and it does not serve the franchise to give up precious draft capital when they are already guaranteed to land either Bryce Young out of Alabama or C.J. Stroud out of Ohio State at No. 2. Do not fall to these Chicago Bears shenanigans!
Besides getting a franchise quarterback in the top two, the other reason to stand pat is Houston already has the No. 12 pick in this draft coming over from the Cleveland Browns in the Deshaun Watson trade. One would think the Texans would draft a high-end wide receiver with that pick to pair him with either Stroud or Young. Johnston is a talented player who may be available at No. 12.
To get a quarterback and a wide receiver in the same draft class cannot be overstated. It should allow a team like the Texans to quickly see its offense grow with the development of that young tandem’s rapport. All the while, you might have an outside shot at contending for the division crown right away. With the right head coach, worst-to-first is not out of the realm of possibly.
Stroud/Young to Johnston could be the connection that will get the Texans out of the AFC cellar.
