The San Francisco 49ers are hosting the rival Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Wild Card round.

One of the best parts about Wild Card Weekend in the NFL is the opportunity for great divisional rivalries to be on full display, such as the one between the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks.

This clash between NFC West titans will see the No. 2 seed pitted against the No. 7 seed. No team in football is hotter than the 49ers right now, while the Seahawks improbably made it into the postseason by the skin of their teeth. To date, no No. 7 seed has upended a No. 2 seed since the NFL expanded to 14 playoff teams. However, you can never put a price on a heated division rivalry.

The winner of the third meeting between these two teams will be heading to the divisional round.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks NFC Wild Card game start time

Kickoff from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California will be at 4:30 p.m. ET, 1:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, Jan. 14. FOX will carry the first playoff game of Wild Card Weekend. Should the 49ers win, they will host the best advancing team between the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Dallas Cowboys. A Seattle win means it will face the Philadelphia Eagles…

Let’s be real. As soon as the NFL expanded to seven playoff teams in each conference, the clock started ticking on it eventually growing to eight. While there are advantages to teams like the Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs having first-round byes to the divisional round, one would think the league would like to add two more playoff games to create Super Duper Wild Card Weekend!

Eventually, a No. 2 seed will lose at home to a No. 7 seed. However, it would be shocking to see that happen in the Bay Area on Saturday afternoon. It may be a division rivalry game, but the 49ers are on a total heater right now. Seattle is well-coached by Pete Carroll, but there will be hell to pay if Kyle Shanahan’s team goes one-and-done in the postseason. They are just too talented.

Saturday’s other playoff game is between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
