Genesis Cabrera will be released

The Cardinals have a lot of outstanding pitching options. While help is always needed and helpful, it’s not a certainty the Cardinals will ever get that again from Cabrera.

The last time the Cardinals saw Cabrera, he was leaving a game with a generous amount of disrespect shown to Marmol. Cabrera wasn’t throwing well, and another pitcher was ready to go. The disrespect earned Cabrera a lecture from Albert Pujols.

Things aren’t looking great for Cabrera so far, as he and the team haven’t agreed on terms for 2023. While the Cardinals offered $950K, Cabrera wanted $1.15 million. Unless the two can agree, this will lead them to arbitration which could lead to more frustration from Cabrera.

The combination of other options and expanding frustrations led to the belief he will not be on the roster for very long in 2023. The team will likely hope for the best and give him a shot in Spring Training. He will likely be on a short leash, though. With his fiery attitude, he likely isn’t a trade chip.  The best action may be to release him if things get too rough too soon.
