Predicting the best free agent the Pittsburgh Steelers will sign: Emmanuel Moseley, CB

The Pittsburgh Steelers finished the season as the 20th-ranked passing defense in football this year, but gave up the second-most touchdown passes through the air. Yes, it did not help losing T.J. Watt for a chunk of the season. But, the Steelers’ cornerback group was about as bad as you could get.

Trust Pro Football Focus as much as you’d like, or as little as you’d like. But, the Steelers had only one cornerback finish in the top-64 graded corners all season long. It was Cameron Sutton, who graded out as the no. 29 corner in football.

For that reason, Pittsburgh goes after a cornerback and signs a mighty good one. Anytime you can steal a starting player from the best defense in football, that’s a strong signing. Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley did exit early this season due to a torn ACL, which will likely allow the Steelers to get him at a discount.

But, if recovery goes well, Moseley could be back and ready for the regular season in 2023. In 11 games in 2021, Moseley allowed zero touchdowns and an opposing quarterback rating of just 65.6. This year, in five games, he again allowed zero touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 66.9. If health pans out, Pittsburgh gets a young stud at the cornerback position.
