Saints fans are already looking ahead to the 2023 season. Here are three players who will take big steps forward and one who won’t ahead of next year.

The New Orleans Saints finished the 2022 NFL season with a 7-10 record, matching with the Atlanta Falcons for the worst record in one of the worst divisions in football. The NFC South was nothing to write home about in 2022, and for the Saints, they were never able to play consistent football throughout.

Here, we look at three Saints players who will improve in 2023, and one whose best days might be behind him.

Saints player that won’t improve in 2023: Tyrann Mathieu, S

It was a homecoming for safety Tyrann Mathieu in 2022, as the former LSU Tiger star made his way back to the Bayou to play for the New Orleans Saints. A favorite son of Louisiana, Mathieu signed a three-year deal to play for his hometown Saints and ended up playing in all 17 games throughout the season.

While Mathieu still played at a very high level, nabbing three interceptions for the second straight season, and being a key to the Saints defense, this may be the most the Saints will get out of him on this deal. He is currently going into his age-31 season, and as anybody who covers the NFL knows, his best days may be behind him at this point.
