10 most important college football players returning to school over entering draft
Top 10 college football players returning to school over entering draft
No. 1: Blake Corum, Michigan RB
There was bound to be a what-if narrative around Blake Corum and the injury that kept him out of the College Football Playoff for Michigan, given their loss to TCU. It would have been a whole lot bigger if he hadn’t put off the NFL for a year by returning to the Wolverines for his own unfinished business. The goal is to leave no what-ifs for next year.
The 5-foot-8 running back would have been penalized on draft boards for his size but there would have been plenty of interest in the rusher coming off a 1,463-yard, 18-touchdown season in the Big Ten. And with running backs, the decision to go to the NFL with as little mileage on their bodies as possible is always understandable.
So Corum’s return seems very much aimed at making the quote, “Those who stay will be champions,” a reality.
Michigan leaned on him in 2022 and they’ll be able to lean on him again in 2023 as they pursue the ultimate goal of breaking through for a national championship under Jim Harbaugh. Even with Donovan Edwards returning, it would be a more difficult task to dream of without Corum leading the way on the ground.
The Wolverines are hoping to not skip a beat and Corum is the kind of player who should ensure they don’t.
