Keenan Allen rumors: 5 teams that should jump to sign WR if Chargers cut him
By John Buhler
New England Patriots always seem to need a wide receiver, now don’t they?!
The New England Patriots prying former Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien off Nick Saban’s Alabama staff should work out for them. It will give third-year pro and former Crimson Tide standout Mac Jones the best chance possible at succeeding long-term in New England. Of course, he needs more than a replacement-level wide receiver to throw the ball to. Allen should fix this.
New England has slightly more cap space over Houston with the Patriots pushing $38 million. Since you can trust Bill Belichick to draft a wide receiver about as well as his former team drafting a quarterback, to free agency you must go, New England! Allen is not fleet of foot and slightly past his prime. He is a high-end possession receiver, and one who wants to win! Allen could fit in well.
It may be an odd time to come aboard in New England, but Allen could be ready for the challenge.
Chicago Bears have more cap space than anyone and they have the No. 1 pick
Few teams will be as fascinating to watch navigate the offseason than the Chicago Bears. They have gotten more things wrong than right since 1985, but Justin Fields is not one of them. Along with offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, he gives Chicagoland something to look forward to on the gridiron for years. While Chicago is a place where receivers go to die, Allen could work with Fields.
With nearly $99 million in available cap space, more than $42 million over the next bad team, Chicago is in a great position to rebuild this thing on the fly. Not only that, but they have the No. 1 overall pick. Chicago could draft a defensive star like Will Anderson Jr. out of Alabama or Jalen Carter out of Georgia, but they are a major trade-back candidate. It is all about stockpiling assets.
In theory, nobody can outspend the Bears this year, making them a viable candidate to land Allen.
