Sonny Dykes’ plan to dominate the metroplex is what will keep TCU relevant

The entire paradigm has changed with Sonny Dykes arriving at TCU. He took his metroplex plan from SMU and transposed it onto the Horned Frogs to perfection, in one year nonetheless. Like Baylor, this is a private school in the state of Texas. It may not have the alumni base of other schools, but this up-and-coming football program has the ability to galvanize all of its boosters.

No doubt, TCU’s big rivalry with Baylor will become a cornerstone of this newfangled league. However, Dykes has already done things no Big 12 program has done before him. He took over a sub-.500 team, made the College Football Playoff and played for a national championship. The Horned Frogs had no chance vs. Georgia, but the exposure TCU got from it cannot be quantified.

In short, TCU has a tremendous opportunity to become the Big 12’s version of Auburn. In another league, Auburn would be more than a top-15 program of all time; it would be contending for national titles annually. While Auburn is largely seen as the worst Power Five program you can realistically win a national title at, perhaps TCU could become that in due time in the new Big 12?

It is all about one thing and one thing only for the Horned Frogs: Recruit at a top 15 level annually.
