2. DE Al-Quadin Muhammad

Al-Quadin Muhammad had a very rough season last year. He was brought in as a guy who followed head coach Matt Eberflus from the Indianapolis Colts. Something didn’t fit with Muhammad, as it was clear he was only as good as his supporting cast. The supporting cast in Chicago is nowhere near as good as Muhammad saw in Indianapolis.

The Bears need to revamp both lines. It’s easier to revamp the defensive line. Muhammad will probably move on to another team and play much better than he did in Chicago, but it doesn’t really matter. Something didn’t fit between the two. It’s better just to cut ties now than try to make a square peg fit in a round hole. If you couldn’t follow, Muhammad is that square peg.

Eberflus is fighting for his job at this point after finishing the season with the worst record in the league in 2022. He can’t keep tying himself to players he brought over from the Colts if they are playing the way Muhammad did last season.

The Bears will save $4 million on the salary cap if the team cuts Muhammad after June 1st. Expect the team to move him with that distinction, a post-June 1 cut. It would be best for all parties to separate their partnership.
