Bryan Reynolds rumors: Why not the Boston Red Sox?

The Boston Red Sox need help at center field. Adam Duvall and Kiké Hernandez are currently splitting time, and that won’t cut it. While Chaim Bloom hasn’t done enough to satisfy Red Sox fans this winter, a trade for Reynolds, while signing Rafael Devers long-term (which has already been accomplished, of course) would almost make up for losing Xander Bogaerts.

Almost.

But what would a trade for Reynolds look like? Well, Boston fans ought to prepare themselves, because it’s expensive. The Pirates asking price is high since Reynolds has at least two years left on his contract. This is their trade piece to sell, and they’ll do it on their terms.

Casas is the biggest name of the bunch, as he’s near MLB-ready and can presumably be called up to the Pirates big league roster this season, if not right out of spring training.

Mata is also near big-league ready as he threw innings in triple-a last season. The Pirates need arms, even if they are a few years away from their competitive window. Romero was a first-round pick and can feasibly play shortstop or second base. Boston has plenty of organizational depth up the middle, so losing Romero shouldn’t be a major issue long-term.
