2. Bryan Reynolds rumors: The Red Sox have a wide-open outfield to make a deal

The Boston Red Sox are a much better match for what the Pirates could be seeking. Could we see them get involved in the Bryan Reynolds trade rumors? Let’s make them an offer.

The Pirates land four prospects in this deal. Leading the way is first baseman Triston Casas (2) followed by Bryan Mata (6), Mikey Romero (8), and Franklin German (27). The Pirates are well situated at first base for the 2023 season. Casas could, however, be a longer term option. While Eric Hosmer remains in Boston, they’ll already have a tough time mixing him in. First basemen are acquirable in trades or free agency down the line. Boston can spare him.

Mata might not be as well-known as Casas yet he is someone Pittsburgh should be all over. He reached Triple-A last year in what was an incredibly successful rise through Boston’s minor leagues. He should be in line to throw innings for the Pirates early in 2023.

Romero is a 2022 first round draft pick that plays shortstop but could be viewed as a future second baseman in Pittsburgh. Boston can afford to deal him. Their top prospect is shortstop Marcelo Mayer. He’s untouchable in any trade for Reynolds. They can part with Romero.

German is just another arm Pittsburgh can add to the list of candidates for next year’s bullpen. Don’t sleep on those additions in trades.

Is this deal too much for the Red Sox to give up? If they’re serious about winning, it’s something they can afford. One of their biggest rivals, however, may have a bigger desire to land Reynolds.
