Pick Analysis. Detroit Lions. Jalen Ramsey. Scouting Report. CB. 3. player. 50

The Lions would be able to keep making the leap with a Jalen Ramsey trade

When you think about it, it’s relatively remarkable that the Detroit Lions were on the cusp of a long-awaited playoff berth this season despite having the 28th-ranked defense in terms of DVOA. And a big part of that was that the Lions were routinely gashed in the passing game due to inconsistency from their cornerbacks.

Jeff Okudah has flashed his first-round potential but staying healthy has been an issue for him. And outside of that, the Lions aren’t a team that is particularly deep with quality players at the cornerback position.

That’s obviously something that Jalen Ramsey would fix if Detroit could pull off a trade. Ramsey and Okudah would be a great pairing and, perhaps more importantly, it would put less pressure on Okudah in the hopes that he can develop more consistency and, of course, stay healthy. It’s a win-win on the field for everyone in the Lions secondary.

What stands out with Detroit, though, is that they are clearly on the cusp of something really special with the roster and coaching staff they have in place and continue to add to. Moreover, there is no team more rich in overall draft capital than the Lions, so a Ramsey trade wouldn’t be a hindrance to them in that regard either.

Already with $13 million in cap space and with moves to make to clear up more room, it’d be hard to figure why the Lions wouldn’t explore a relatively cheap deal in order to add a star.
