Steelers need secondary help that a Jalen Ramsey trade fixes quickly

As of right now, the Steelers are in one of the funniest positions in regards to the salary cap that I’ve seen in quite some time. They might as well be right at the number for the 2023 cap as Pittsburgh currently sits a mere $81,000 under the cap right now.

However, Pittsburgh is in a great spot to clear up room. By cutting William Jackson III after a highly disappointing season, that frees up more than $12 million with no dead cap. They could also cut Chuks Okorafor and Mitchell Trubisky for just under $15 million in savings. Those moves are just the start of it, too.

Cutting Jackson highlights the need at cornerback for this team, though. They took a swing on the former Bengal and it didn’t work out. The reason the Steelers took that swing, however, is that they’ve been searching for answers at cornerback for quite some time now. After all, this is a team that saw significant time from Levi Wallace and Ahkello Witherspoon this season at the position, neither of whom are high-end options at the position.

Jalen Ramsey, on the other hand, is exactly that. Though he may no longer be at the peak of his powers, he’s still a top corner in the NFL. If the Steelers want to get aggressive this offseason in trying to put young Kenny Pickett in the best overall position to lead this team to wins, then shoring up the one weakness on an overall great defense would be a great piece of that puzzle.
