NFL Draft: 10 best wide receivers available in 2023
By KC Proctor
5. Jalin Hyatt, Tennessee
There’s no question as to why Hendon Hooker made his way into the top-five quarterbacks in this year’s class. With Cedric Tillman out wide and Jalin Hyatt in the slot, he was surrounded by electric playmakers and extremely trusty hands. It was previously mentioned that Hyatt stole the show from Tillman in 2022. It was not mentioned, however, just how flashy his show was.
Hyatt rewrote the record books this past year by setting new single-game (5) and single-season (15) touchdown records for the Volunteers. His 1,267 receiving yards led the team and his 67 receptions are good for seventh all-time in a single season at the University of Tennessee. Per PFF, he lined up in the slot for 87 percent of his total offensive snaps, but he scored eight of his touchdowns on routes that were 20 yards or deeper.
At 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, Hyatt has enough size to play outside in the NFL and evidence of a route tree to solidify that opinion. His role at Tennessee was relegated by complimentary receivers on the outside, but it is not a limitation on his potential in the league.
I expect, as of now, that it would take a pressure-laden wide receiver run in the first round of this year’s draft for Jalin Hyatt to go on day one. If he’s still around on day two, however, it won’t be for long.
