NFL Rumors: Would Aaron Rodgers trade ruin the Jets locker room?

Should Aaron Rodgers’ time in the darkness not result in him returning to the Packers or retiring this offseason, then a trade will be inevitable. And the trade partner that has been rumored as the most likely for a long time now is the New York Jets.

On paper, the reasoning is simple. If not for gut-wrenching quarterback play this past season, the Jets would’ve been a playoff team. They have a young roster ready to win on both sides of the ball and bringing in a future Hall-of-Famer like Rodgers would appear to be the type of move to get the team over the hump.

Jets legend Joe Klecko, however, is skeptical. In an appearance on CBS Sports Radio’s The Zach Gelb Show, Klecko said he doesn’t want to see New York trade for Rodgers in fear that he would ruin the locker room and foul up the chemistry of the young roster.

There is some merit to those concerns. For as great as Rodgers has been as a player, his bonafides as a mentor and leader have been called into question before, especially in recent years.

Is the fear that Rodgers would upset the Big Apple cart enough to dissuade the Jets from making and Aaron Rodgers trade? Probably not. But if someone with the caché of Klecko is voicing that concern, it’s at least something worth considering.
