Dodgers Gavin Lux replacements: Isiah Kiner-Filefa

The Josh Donaldson trade came with a bag full of regrets for Brian Cashman and the New York Yankees. One of those regrets was IKF, who was supposed to be a stopgap shortstop before the team calls up Anthony Volpe, or another of their top prospects at the position. Yet, IKF struggled mightily at the plate and in the field, proving that he could not handle the pressure of playing in New York.

While Filefa is playing up the fresh start narrative this spring, the Yankees would prefer to trade him and get something in return. Enter the Dodgers.

Kiner-Filefa believes that with a season under his belt, he can succeed in New York, but it’s not clear if the Yankees agree.

“Just getting ready for anything that this year throws at me,” said Kiner-Falefa, per the New York Post. “[Last year], things happened and things sped up on me. So this year, no matter what happens, I’m just going to be myself and just stay the course, knowing it’s not going to be a smooth road. It’s going to be a bumpy road, especially when you’re going to get to the playoffs and be a good team.

Volpe and Oswald Pereza are the future at the shortstop position. Both rank in the top 100 prospects in baseball per MLB Pipeline. New York is no place for IKF, especially considering his replacements are waiting for him to fail. The Dodgers would offer him an opportunity to move on, just as they did with Joey Gallo at the trade deadline last year.
