MLB news: Oli Marmol has beef with C.B. Bucknor

Oli Marmol and C.B. Bucknor finally shook hands on Monday after their well-publicized beef over the weekend.

The St. Louis Cardinals manager was upset that Bucknor did not shake his hand in the team’s previous spring training game.

“I was raised and brought up in this organization to do exactly what I did today,” Marmol said. “You go to home plate. You hand the lineup card and you shake the hands of the four umpires who are running that game.”

These two have history, as well. Last season, Bucknor ejected Marmol for arguing over a call which went against third baseman Nolan Arenado. Despite his ejection, Marmol continued to yell at Bucknor, suggesting that his time in baseball was nearly ending. Marmol, being just 36 years old, didn’t show much restraint in his commentary. After Saturday’s run-in, he took matters a step further.

“I don’t think he’s good at his job, and it just shows a lack of class as a man,” Marmol said.

Marmol was contacted by MLB, and it’s unclear if either he or Bucknor were fined for their actions.
