2. Geno Smith

Smith might be the single NFL player who raised his value the most during the 2022 campaign. Few people outside the Seahawks organization saw his career renaissance coming. Suddenly, the 32-year-old veteran is poised to land the biggest contract of his professional career.

Both Smith and the Seahawks are saying all the right things about sticking with one another for additional seasons. The question Seattle needs to answer is just how long they’re willing to commit to Smith as their guy. He was a very good starter last year but that looks like an outlier compared to the rest of his career.

Fans of Smith would point out that the Seahawks put him in a better position to succeed than he’s enjoyed during his previous stops. That’s certainly true, but it doesn’t mean that Smith is going to throw 30 touchdowns again in his career.

Ultimately, the Seahawks need to retain Smith to remain competitive, but it’s not too soon for the team to start eyeballing potential quarterbacks of the future. As long as his salary demands are reasonable he should return as the team’s starter for several more years. Seattle would still be smart to avoid overcommitting too many years to a player who’s struggled to establish himself as a starter for quite a few years.
