The Arnold Palmer Invitational isn’t the only PGA Tour event set to take place this week. Since it’s an invitational, there is an alternate field event. That tournament is the Puerto Rico Open.

I won’t lie to you, the field is pretty bad. If you need proof of that, look no further than the fact that Nate Lashley is the betting favorite. If you don’t know who that is, I don’t blame you.

Regardless, we can still bet on the event and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. In fact, we tend to find better value from a wagering standpoint in these types of events. Let’s dive into the betting odds and then I’ll give you my best bet.

Plenty of times in these opposite field events, it’s whoever gets hot with their putter that ends up winning. Nobody in this field is going to blow away the competition with pinpoint accuracy with their irons, or by bombing their driver 330+ yards.

So, let’s take a gamble on a guy who is not only the best putter in the field, but one of the best putters on the PGA Tour.

Harry Hall sits enters the week ranking third on Tour in strokes gained: putting.

Sure, he’s not electric in any other areas of his game, but he has gained strokes on the field with his approach play in three of his last seven starts.

He has also had some impressive showings this year in events that boasted much stronger fields, like a T28 at the Sony Open and a T34 at Pebble Beach.

Let’s hope those strong results lead into an impressive performance this week. If he can have a decent week with his driver and irons, his putter is good enough to win this event.
