3. Vonn Bell

Jessie Bates is the best Bengals’ safety headed to free agency, but Bell is the potential signing who makes the most sense for the Packers. He would give Green Bay an immediate upgrade over fellow free agent Adrian Amos at the strong safety position.

Bell is best utilized as a safety who can help strengthen a team’s run defense near the line of scrimmage. The fact that he can also hold up adequately in coverage only serves to increase his value. Don’t be surprised if quite a few teams express interest in him early in free agency.

The presence of Darnell Savage at free safety gives Green Bay the perfect potential partner for Bell at the back end of their defense. The Packers could largely keep Bell near the line of scrimmage on conventional downs and they wouldn’t need to pull him off the field on obvious passing downs due to his versatility.

Bell isn’t going to be a superstar for the next NFL team that signs him, but he profiles as a solid, above-average starter over the life of a multi-year deal. He won’t be a cheap addition but non-elite safeties don’t break the bank. The Packers can swing a deal for Bell if they prioritize him and court him correctly.
