Frank Reich makes the Carolina Panthers interesting, but he has to prove himself

There is a lot to like about the Carolina Panthers hiring Frank Reich to be their next head coach. Frankly (pun absolutely intended), this might be the best head-coaching hire of the five made this offseason. Reich knows how to coach up the quarterback position. He is going to a place where he has fond memories of as a player. However, he must get that Indianapolis Colts stank off him now.

Reich is a good man, but man, do the Colts do a number on good people… You go into the organization with the best of intentions, but your IQ is lowered by 25 points immediately upon entering the building. You end up doing things that have idiots like me questioning your football acumen. Carolina is totally drafting a quarterback at No. 9, but Reich likes tall guys and retreads.

As long as the Panthers end up drafting someone good, then their future can be bright. The absolute last thing this franchise needs is to put another 6-foot-3 retread in charge of running Reich’s offense. Just stop. It doesn’t work. Carolina did play very hard down the stretch for interim head coach Steve Wilks, but they were beyond horrific during the latter part of Matt Rhule’s reign.

Carolina could win the worst division in football or finish in last place; they have so much variance.
