NFL rumors: Will the Titans trade Derrick Henry?

Derrick Henry’s name was floated in trade rumors on Monday, as the Tennessee Titans try to shed large, veteran contracts while they still can. Tennessee has already let go of Taylor Lewan and Jeffrey Simmons. Could Henry be next?

The All-Pro running back has value now. If the Titans do plan on letting him go in the next few years, it would be smart to trade him this offseason and receive some draft capital in return.

Running backs don’t have a ton of value altogether. A player like Henry, however, can change a game with one run and put a veteran-laden team over the top. Should the Buffalo Bills, or even Philadelphia Eagles come calling, Tennessee can ask for at least a second-round selection in return.

Henry was the NFL’s offensive player of the year in 2020, but two years is a long time in the legs of a powerful running back. None of Henry’s contract is guaranteed, and if the Titans were to trade him, they’d say over $6 million in salary cap space. Henry also doesn’t provide much value on third down, an area the Titans would surely covet in a potential replacement.
