What Tom Brady going to Dolphins would mean for Tua Tagovailoa

This one hurts. Tua Tagovailoa, when healthy, showed he had star potential last year. Tom Brady joining the Miami Dolphins pulls a year’s worth of starting minutes away from Tagovailoa, unless a following move is made to find Tagovailoa a new home. After the year he had in 2022, that’s a huge chink in the armor of his career arc.

There are two upsides to a year as a backup for Tua: Firstly, he gets to learn from Tom Brady, the greatest quarterback of all time.

Secondly, a year to rest after suffering several concussions in 2022 would not be the worst thing. It gives Tagovailoa two offseasons and an entire regular season to completely regain his health before jumping back in.

But, in this alternate reality, perhaps if Brady decides to join Miami the Dolphins do end up trading Tagovailoa. They clearly aren’t entirely convinced that he’s the future considering they’re thought to be “exploring all options” at QB, and they could trade him to get themselves back in the first round of the draft this year.

Ultimately, though, it displaces him in one way or another: Either on a new team, or on the depth chart.
