MLB news: Jordan Walker of St. Louis Cardinals suffers shoulder strain
As reported yesterday, Walker left the spring training game against the Houston Astros on Saturday after sliding headfirst into the second base. St. Louis later announced that Walker had suffered a right shoulder strain on the slide, forcing him from the contest.
Walker, the top prospect for the Cardinals and one of the biggest stories for the team through the early stages of spring training, is considered day-to-day with the shoulder strain. Cardinals manager Oli Marmol said that Walker was due to have a day off on Sunday before the injury, the same day that his shoulder will be reevaluated. St. Louis is not scheduled to play on Monday, meaning it could be Tuesday before there is any word on exactly when Walker could return to the lineup.
Marmol told reporters that the team wasn’t “overly concerned” with the strain, meaning that, at least in the early stages, it isn’t expected to keep Walker out of action for long. He is currently competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster for St. Louis, and the shoulder strain reportedly is unlikely to be an issue that would jeopardize the start of the season for Walker, whether he is in St. Louis or at Triple-A Memphis.
