March Madness 2023: 5 upsets brewing for the Second Round
March Madness Second Round upset picks
Creighton over Baylor
It hasn’t been the smoothest sailing for Big 12 teams in March Madness since it looks like the rugged nature of the league has taken a toll on its seven entrants in the field. Iowa State and West Virginia lost early while Kansas, Baylor and Texas let lower seeds hang around for a while before moving on.
The trickiest matchup for a Big 12 program in the Round of 32 is Baylor’s date with Creighton on Sunday. The Bluejays were a team that peaked as high as the Top 10 early in the season before a losing streak knocked them out of the polls.
That skid coincided with the absence of big man Ryan Kalkbrenner, who sat out a few games due to injury. Creighton is a different team with Kalkbrenner, who dominated in the Bluejays’ win over NC State by pouring in a game-high 31 points with seven rebounds.
The Bears don’t really have a big capable of matching up with Kalkbrenner and they drew a six-seed in name only that has the talent to make the Final Four. The South Region already has seen one big upset as Arizona lost to Princeton and the region could experience even more chaos if the Bluejays can knock out Baylor.
