1. Yankees prospects who deserve a roster spot soon: Anthony Volpe, SS

How soon before Anthony Volpe makes it to the big leagues? Maybe as soon as Opening Day. It still feels like a long shot, and one could argue that Oswald Peraza is the better defender, but it won’t be long before Volpe makes it to the Bronx.

When you think of Yankees’ prospects, it’s impossible not to mention Volpe. Seen as the team’s best prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Volpe’s lack of playing time might be his undoing when it comes to making the Opening day roster. But that doesn’t mean he’ll be sitting in Scranton-Wilkes Barre for very long.

The 21-year-old has done just about everything possible to break camp with the Yankees. Throughout Grapefruit League play, Volpe has an OPS over 1.000 and has shown plenty of power and speed.

If Anthony Volpe does not leave Tampa with a ticket bound for the Bronx, all eyes will be on the infielder and how he performs at Triple-A to begin the season. All it will take for the New York faithful to get impatient is one week’s worth of struggles from Isiah Kiner-Falefa or Oswald Peraza.
