MLB Rumors: Anthony Volpe emulates Derek Jeter for Yankees

Anthony Volpe doesn’t have to be Derek Jeter. In fact, expecting greatness from Volpe from Day 1 in the Bronx is a little unfair, given he’s 21 years old and doesn’t have much experience against major-league pitching.

But the Yankees made this move knowing full and well that the Volpe hype train had arrived. There is no going back, or else Volpe’s confidence will take a hit in the process.

Volpe was brought into Aaron Boone’s office and given the news over the weekend. The New Jersey native gave his family the news, embracing each and every one of them individually. It’s what baseball is all about, and unlike Jeter before him, Volpe is doing his best to take it all in.

Come Opening Day, those good feelings will be a thing of the past. It’s time to post results, as the games matter now. Volpe knows this, and has already set a standard for himself.

Volpe is the first to arrive, and the last to leave. It’s that kind of drive that makes him one of the top prospects in all of baseball, and ideally the Yankees shortstop for years to come.
