MLB Rumors: Will anyone trade for Cristian Pache?

Cristian Pache will not make the Athletics Opening Day roster despite a respectable spring training. The 24-year-old is out of options, meaning that in order to be sent down to the minor leagues, he would have to pass through waivers.

Rather than expose Pache to waiver, where he could potentially be claimed by 29 other teams for only his salary, the A’s are expected to shop him in a trade. But who could be a suitor?

There are plenty of teams which need outfield help, but very few that would take a chance on a player like Pache, who is a former top prospect. Pache has been unable to make much of an impact with his bat at the MLB level, but does offer plenty of speed on the basepaths, and can flash the leather in center field.

A return to Atlanta should not be ruled out, as the Braves outfield is one of their weak spots. Pache would not start, however, and would take a roster spot away from a player who perhaps deserves it more. The Yankees and Pirates are two more landing spots, as both need outfield help and Pache can provide excellent defense.

For the Bucs, Pache represents that chance to land a young player who is just a few years removed from being a top-10 prospect in all of baseball. At only 24, Pache fits their timeline, if he can turn his career around.
