The 2023 NWSL Kits: Each kit’s high school superlative
By Oliver Hunt
Along with a new NWSL season come new NWSL kits for each team; let’s take these kits back to high school — we’re awarding superlatives.
Whether that’s an updated away kit or a total overhaul of both, there are new jerseys abound. It’s important to remember when critiquing these kits, the NWSL follows the FIFA rule regarding secondary kits.
The rule currently states that away kits need to be mostly white and/or a light color to avoid clashing colors when teams are playing away. However, that’s still no excuse for a boring away kit. In an attempt to keep this light, let’s take these kits back to high school: we’re awarding superlatives.
Superlatives for each and every one of the new NWSL kits:
Most Artistic: Orlando Pride
The Orlando Pride released a new home and away kit for this season, making history as the first NWSL team to ditch the white shorts for their away kit. But for this, we’re focusing on the new home kit, inspired by Florida artist Mary Ann Carroll, the only female painter of the Highwaymen painters. Featuring brush strokes mixing with the iconic purple of the Orlando Pride, the jersey stands out against the rest with an artistic flare that sets it apart from the background of the other NWSL kits.
