The Masters picks 2023: Expert picks, best bets for Augusta National
The Masters picks: Best bets for Augusta National
Viktor Hovland to finish Top 10 (+300, DraftKings)
If nothing else, I’m a sucker for Viktor Hovland. While I realize that Hovland’s short game woes are a major problem at Augusta National, he actually gained strokes at this track back in 2021 around the green. Moreover, even though the strokes gained numbers aren’t pretty, we have seen notable improvement from him in that regard. Moreover, he’s gaining a ridiculous 2.36 weighted strokes with ball striking over the last 20 rounds and has just had a cold putter. I think we see him bounce back and get his best finish at this major championship yet, especially since he’s not finished worse than T32 here, even as an amateur, in three starts.
Tommy Fleetwood to finish Top 20 (+185)
Anyone following my picks of late knows that I’ve been high on Tommy Fleetwood’s recent play and I believe for good reason. He comes to Augusta losing strokes off the tee in his last 20 stroke play round but has gained 0.51 weighted strokes on approach and 0.57 weighted strokes around the green over that same span. He also has three finishes of T27 or better in his last five starts and has three Top 20 finishes at The Masters in his last five starts here. I like the form and value for him to make that happen again this week.
Kevin Na to finish Top 40 (+175)
I tried to keep an open mind when it came to many of the LIV Golf players and the best bets for this week and that’s why I had to put something on these odds for Kevin Na. Yes, he’s not been playing well on the new tour. But course history is stickier at Augusta than virtually anywhere else in the world and he’s finished T14, T12 and T13 in his last three tries here. Getting +175 for a Top 40 in the limited field is tremendous value given those finishes and I’m willing to take on the risk betting on him getting those good feels around here back.
Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler to Both Finish Top 10, 1 Unit (+200, DraftKings)
Maybe this is a sucker bet but I’m willing to take two of the best three players in the world who finished 1-2 at The Masters last year to both finish Top 10 at these odds. We’ll talk more about McIlroy shortly (spoiler), but Scheffler has been dominant once again leading up to Augusta and is the rightful favorite this week. With his form and how he tore everyone apart last year, I don’t see how the leader in weighted strokes gained doesn’t at least get another Top 10 this week.
