Collin Morikawa was in the Top 5 at The Masters in 2022 and started off well in 2023. But some golf fans on social media believe he cheated in his round.

We saw Collin Morikawa absolutely burst onto the golf scene by winning two of his first seven major championship starts. The 25-year-old Cal product hasn’t yet won The Masters, but he entered the 2023 tournament with good feelings as he recorded his best finish yet at Augusta National in 2022, finishing outright fifth.

So while he wasn’t the favorite, there were plenty of golf fans expecting big things from Morikawa, whose elite approach play should always help him greatly at The Masters. And he got off to a good start, going 2-under with no bogeys in his first seven holes.

However, it was a potential cheating controversy, not his solid early score, that had golf fans on social media buzzing.

Did Collin Morikawa cheat on 6th green at The Masters?

A video surfaced of Collin Morikawa on the sixth green. In the video, you can see his ball marker well behind the golf ball as he adjusts the ball, then Morikawa moves the marker forward to where his ball was.

If Morikawa indeed moved his ball forward slightly, that is obviously cheating. However, it’s important to note that we don’t have full context from the video and, thus, can’t make a definitive call as to what was being done with the ball and the marker. Based on the video, though, it’s definitely not a good look and something he should definitely be asked about.

Morikawa missed his birdie putt on the hole, which was the position in question in the video, and went on to make par.

We will be sure to keep you updated as to whether or not any penalty is determined from this incident that many fans on Twitter are claiming to be Morikawa cheating at The Masters.
