STL Cardinals rumors: Jake Woodford will be back in Triple-A by May 1

The club selected Jake Woodford to make the Opening Day roster when Adam Wainwright was placed on the injured list due to a groin injury. During Spring Training, Marmol was impressed with Woodford and selected him for the rotation over others such as Matthew Liberatore or Andre Pallante.

In his one game so far in the 2023 season, he pitched 4.1 innings, giving up seven hits and six earned runs, including three home runs. He walked three batters while also striking out three. Combine this with other starting appearances he’s had, and it’s not a good situation for the Cardinals.

This is unacceptable. This isn’t a long-term solution. This isn’t someone who should be in the starting rotation. There are other more sustainable options than Woodford, who should be a relief pitching option.

Woodford should be sent back to Memphis to get more work and comfortable pitching.
