Jets rumors: 3 moves to make for Aaron Rodgers after losing Odell Beckham Jr., No. 1: Make a run at DeAndre Hopkins if he’s released

Lost out on Odell Beckham Jr? How about pivoting to another big-name wide receiver in DeAndre Hopkins?

DeAndre Hopkins has been subject to trade rumors throughout this offseason. He is under contract for two more seasons, where he sets to account for $30.75 million against the cap in 2023 and $26.2 million against the cap in 2024. His contract has made it difficult for the Cardinals to get a return they were hoping for from interested teams. With that, TheMMQB’s Albert Breer said during an appearance on The Greg Bedard Patriots Podcast that some teams believe that the Cardinals will cut Hopkins.

“Some teams think that Cardinals are going to cut him, they think the Cardinals will wind up cutting him.” Breer said, h/t BroBible. “His market is not great right now. There’s nobody who was willing to take on Hopkins’ contract and pay the Cardinals initial asking price.”

If this is the case, the Jets should absolutely make a run at signing Hopkins. There is concern about Hopkins, as he was limited to just 19 games in the past two seasons due to injuries and a six-game suspension in 2022 due to a violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. But, he has name value, and he could potentially put up those big-time numbers like he did back in 2020.

The Jets are obviously looking to make a run to not just a playoff push, but also a run to the Super Bowl. Adding Hopkins could really help give Rodgers all of the pieces he needs on offense to succeed.
