1. Andrew Benintendi could be the additional ‘professional hitter’ the Mets are looking for

Things just never seem to work out for the Chicago White Sox, do they?

After signing Andrew Benintendi this offseason, the White Sox are off to a wobbly 5-7 start, including injuries to key players in Eloy Jimenez, Tim Anderson and Joe Kelly. It’s just starting to feel like this core of Anderson, Jimenez, Yoan Moncada and Luis Robert is never quite going to work out.

That opens the door for a contender such as the Mets to potentially acquire a savvy veteran like Benintendi.

Obviously, it’s too early to get him now, but around the Trade Deadline, Benintendi could be the sixth bat the Mets are looking for behind Brandon Nimmo, Starling Marte, Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil.

The bottom of the Mets’ order has been particularly weak so far, so Benintendi — a proven left-handed bat — would absolutely be a welcome addition.
