Strangest Buffalo Bills players: 1. Drew Bledsoe

Drew Bledsoe should be seen as so much more than he is today. He’s a former number-one overall pick. He took his team to the Super Bowl (kind of twice?). He holds multiple NFL records, including pass completions in a game (45 against the Vikings in 1994). Bledsoe was great for the New England Patriots, and he even earned the NFL’s biggest contract in history (at the time obviously) when he signed a 10-year, $103 million contract.

There is one reason why Drew Bledsoe is now a blip on the radar. Tom Brady. When Brady took over under center, Bledsoe became a giant commodity. In 2002, the Patriots traded their once star quarterback to the division rival Buffalo Bills.

Bledsoe made an immediate impact. He passed for a ridiculous 4,300 yards in 2002. He made the Pro Bowl, and with the Patriots missing the playoffs, some fans were wondering if the Patriots made a mistake choosing Brady over Bledsoe.

Then, Bledsoe’s numbers fell off a cliff. He would move on to the Dallas Cowboys before retiring to become a wine entrepreneur. While he was successful for a season, it is very strange to see Bledsoe in a Bills uniform.
