MLB Rumors: What are the Mets waiting for with Brett Baty?

Eduardo Escobar is a fine player, but the Mets would be silly not to call up Brett Baty sometime soon. Baty is absolutely raking at the minor-league level, even putting up better numbers than Fernando Tatis Jr., who just had a three-homer, eight-RBI night in the Pacific Coast League.

Another option for the Mets could be Mark Vientos, who is hitting .351 with an OPS of 1.145.

As SB Nation’s Amazin Avenue reported, there’s very little doubt within the fanbase that Baty is the Mets best third base option:

"“Billy Eppler was in attendance. Eduardo Escobar has a wRC+ below zero. Brett Baty hit his fourth homer of the year as part of a three-hit day and now has a 1.325 OPS on the season. The outcome here shouldn’t be in doubt, but it somehow is.”"

Rising Apple’s John Flynn had a similar point, and Baty could force Eppler’s hand here shortly:

"“Baty could have used an opportunity to test his eye discipline against the Marlins. There is also the opportunity coming up against Oakland’s anemic pitching this weekend to get some good stats in and against the Dodgers next week to test him against world class pitching, so Mets fans should hope that Baty continues his success in Triple-A to force Billy Eppler’s hand here.”"

Either way, it’s unclear what the Mets are waiting on with Baty. He has the experience and could contribute to the big-league team now, if called upon.
