Max Scherzer gives Mets more to worry about on injury front
By Jason Cozad
More worry about injuries has started to approach the New York Mets as Max Scherzer has to push back his start due to back soreness.
Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer was supposed to take the mound on Sunday in the series finale against the Oakland A’s, but due to a sore back that has been lingering from his last start, the New York Mets have made the move to push Max Scherzer’s fourth start of the year back to Wednesday.
An MRI was conducted on Scherzer in the area south of his right scapula, which did not revival anything serious or bring up major concerns.
This is not the first time injury has come around to Scherzer. Last season Scherzer had an oblique issue that caused him to only start 23 games for 145.1 innings.
Mets News: Calling up Triple-A’er to pitch
The New York Mets had the plan to bring in a sixth pitcher for the rotation, it was just not determined when that was going to take place. Now with the issue concerning Scherzer, the Mets have decided to recall Jose Butto from Triple-A Syracuse to be able to pitch on Sunday.
For the one game that Jose Butto did start the Mets last season, he pitched four innings and gave up seven runs. Butto has started one game in the minor leagues this year and has a 15.75 ERA.
Max Scherzer makes sure to let everyone know he will be fine.
Max Scherzer made sure to let everyone know that this is not a serious injury.
“I know exactly what this is. It just needs some time. It was similar to what I was dealing with in 2019. I know if you just give it a little rest it goes away,” he said per Yahoo! Sports.
All Mets fans are hoping that it will be healed and that Scherzer will be feeling himself again come up on Wednesday when he will have to take the mound to face the Los Angeles Dodgers.
