Splash trades the Minnesota Vikings could make for Trey Lance: Trade Number 2

In this second deal, we’re essentially adding onto what the first trade entailed. It isn’t a ton of extra value, but if the 49ers needed to be swayed just a bit more, the Vikings could throw in a couple of more picks next year.

In addition to gettin the third rounder in 2023 and a first rounder next year, the 49ers also get fourth and fifth-round selections in 2024. That brings the total to four picks for Lance, and Cousins is still in Minnesota.

Again, this is an absolute haul for Minnesota to give up. However, let’s just remember, there is still a ton of potential with Lance. He has two years left on his rookie deal, plus a fifth-year option the Vikings could pick up.

So, they’ll have cap flexibility going forward with Lance’s salary being what it is. The fact that he has yet to play a full season, too, is a big factor here. While guys like Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence could be in line for extension talks next offseason, Lance won’t be in the same position.

Minnesota gets cap flexibility and a mobile, exciting quarterback to throw into this offense featuring Justin Jefferson. Speaking of Jefferson, Lance’s development could be expedited in a big way throwing to a player of that caliber.
